As the Cricket World Cup begins tonight, I felt it appropriate to share with you some of my favourite clothing items I have worn to games throughout the summer and to, also, share some wisdom on what to wear to matches.
RULE NUMBER ONE: ALWAYS BE PREPARED
The weather is always an unpredictable factor in choosing an outfit prior to the day of an event. As the Adelaide test match is held in early to mid December every year, the weather is typically quite warm and into the mid-thirties. This, however, was not the case in 2013 and 2014. As I usually prepare to wear skirts, dresses and mid-length shorts, the bipolar South Australian weather did not agree with my outfit choices. I was forced to opt for jeans, collared tops and even a scarf on Day Two of the test match, but proper hierarchy was restored on days three and four.

RULE NUMBER TWO: HEAT
However, that is only the test match, my friends! Don’t let it fool you, it’s all a facade. You will attend a Twenty20 game and the heat will hit you like a strong mans cologne. Make heat your friend, not your enemy. Airy blouses, flowing dresses and playsuits are recommended in weather above 25 degrees, although, if you are in a members enclosure, check the dressing requirements before arrival at the ground. Do not do what 2013 Sonia did and wear shorts too short and have to walk up to Rundle Mall to purchase ones at an ‘appropriate’ length for the dress standards. Hehehe, not my proudest moment! And stay hydrated, people!

RULE NUMBER THREE: BE COMFORTABLE
For Gods sake, above everything, BE COMFORTABLE! You may look incredible in your Sass and Bide jumpsuit at 10AM but by 5PM, it could be a whole other story. Put your comfort above anything. Your most likely going to become increasingly fidgety throughout the duration of the match so be aware that your clothes could hamper your quest for comfort if they are not comfortable!

RULE NUMBER FOUR: BE PREPARED TO WALKS
Around the ground, up-and-down stairs, from public transport and to the toilet, you’re going to be walking a surprisingly large amount. Shoes that feel good on are vital to a fabulous day out at the cricket. Finding stylish but comfortable shoes is a tricky ordeal but I highly recommend it before going to the cricket. Again, if in a members enclosure, check dress code as to what shoes are permitted in what areas.

These our tips should serve to provide you with day-saving tips out at the cricket. They could, also, be interchangeable at other summer sports and, when rules one and two are reversed, can be used for football games. I believe that there are 4 games played at Adelaide Oval during the world cup and if you need something to do, get down to one!
