Toni Maticevski. Is there a label more synonymous with eccentric elegance than this? Every garment produced by the designer is sculpted like a piece of art, crafted into intricate bustiers and dazzled dresses. It’s easy for an onlooker to become entranced in the creations of Maticevski, and the showing of Resort 2017 last night at MBFWA was nothing different.
It is easy for fashion bloggers, writers, designers and enthusiasts alike to compare the Australian to a version of Alexander McQueen in the way dressing is taken to the extreme, de-constructed and placed back together like a puzzle pieces. With 2016 being the year Maticevski flirted with ideas of romanticism and femininity the collection was a departure from this and gifted 2017 with an edgier, darker showing.
The emotion of the collection was one of anguish and tenderness, not unlike McQueen in his prime years. Having only been graced with snippets of a buttery yellow, Resort 2017 was dominated by a darker palate ensuring it was memorable.
It’s a darker Maticevski, but it’s a fresh Maticevski.
A new Maticevski.
