There’s under a month until the 2017 Santos Tour Down Under and it’s time to get prepared.
The beating South Australian sun, the sipping of crimson wine and the swishing of over 100 of the best professional cyclists trawling through the state makes the final full week of January one to remember and one to embrace.
One doesn’t need to be a cycling fan or need to understand the nature of the sport to appreciate the atmosphere of an event that brought 795,432 South Australians and tourists out to explore the festivities in 2016, generating a record $49.6m into the state’s tourism industry.
Generally, the race is easy to navigate and with multiple taking the form of a circuit at one point in each stage making for plenty of opportunity to see the best in the flesh.
Taking a look to the other side of the event, it is certainly more than just a bike race. The Santos Festival Of Cycling celebrates the best of South Australian culture interpolated with the opening race of the professional calendar.
We’ve picked our favourite events of the festival for you to check out if the racing itself isn’t all you’re interested in.
