TWS: This Week’s Spotlight, a new addition to Zeinreich content aiming to highlight Sonia’s favourite labels the whole world round, local to luxury.
Emilia Wickstead was born in Auckland, New Zealand where she called home until 14 when she followed her mother, Angela, to one of the fashion capitals of the world, Milan, Italy. She cites her adolescent years in the city of fashion as crucial to her development as a designer.
At 26, she moved to London to study fashion and marketing at the prestigious and renowned school, Central Saint Martins, boasting alumni including John Galliano, Stella McCartney and the late Alexander McQueen. This came prior to moving to New York where she began working at an array of fashion houses and at US Vogue as an assistants assistant.
Her garments are the embodiment of elegant, sophisticated, chic and exude girlish femininity. Favoured by the likes of Jenna Coleman, Cara Delevigne and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, she was awarded ELLE Magazine’s Style Award for Red Carpet Designer of the Year in 2014 and shortlisted for the BFC/Vogue Fashion Fund in 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016.
